Power Restored After Parkdale Mall Outage: Entergy Restores Service to Most Affected Residents

Entergy has successfully restored power to the majority of Southeast Texas residents impacted by a widespread outage caused by a downed wire near Parkdale Mall. The incident affected over 4,600 customers, but as of the latest update, only four Entergy customers in Jefferson County remain without power.

The outage, which occurred in the areas surrounding Parkdale Mall, caused a significant disruption in the region. At its peak, 4,639 Entergy customers in Jefferson County were without electricity. 12News reached out to Entergy for more information, and Entergy Senior Communications Specialist Brittany Ford provided an update.

"A transmission line issue is currently impacting service in areas near Parkdale Mall in Beaumont. Our crews are on-site working diligently to make the necessary repairs as quickly and safely as possible," Ford stated.

Entergy serves a wide area of Southeast Texas, including Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, and Tyler counties. The Jasper Newton Electric Co-Op and Deep East Texas Electric Co-Op also serve customers in Jasper, Newton, and surrounding counties. Additionally, the Sam Houston Electric Cooperative caters to some customers in parts of Liberty, Hardin, Tyler, and Jasper counties.

To ensure safety during outages, Entergy offers valuable tips on their website. These include creating an emergency preparedness kit with essential items like flashlights, batteries, and first aid supplies. It's also crucial to maintain a supply of non-perishable, healthy snacks and have alternative charging methods for devices. During outages, disconnect appliances and avoid opening refrigerators to preserve cold air and food.

For those with backup generators, Entergy emphasizes the importance of following manufacturer's instructions and using an automatic transfer switch installed by a qualified electrician to ensure safe operation. Additionally, it's recommended to discard any perishable items in refrigerators or freezers that may not be safe to consume during power outages.
