Mithridate Fall 2026: Daniel Fletcher's Journey Upstream | Fashion Collection Review (2026)

Mithridate Fall 2026: A Journey Upstream

One year into his tenure as creative director at the Guangzhou-founded label Mithridate, Daniel Fletcher is exuding a newfound confidence, presenting a robust fall 2026 collection and an engaging narrative to complement it. In the grand foyer of Tate Britain, he unveiled a colossal wisteria tree, symbolizing the anecdotal historical fact that the first Chinese wisteria was brought from Guangzhou to London in the 1800s and continues to bloom in Chiswick to this day.

"The concept of introducing Chinese heritage to the UK and witnessing its growth and blossoming is my vision for Mithridate's future," shared Fletcher, who has developed a close working and personal bond with the brand's founder, Tina Jiang. Having delved into various facets of Englishness over the years, Fletcher conceptualized the fall collection as a character study, akin to a journey along the River Thames. He observed bankers in Canary Wharf, intellectuals in Bloomsbury, revelers in Mayfair, and recreational fishermen in Richmond, weaving their diverse personas into a cohesive collection replete with thoughtful details.

Updated pea coats and duffle coats bore countryside and maritime influences, while fly-fishing-inspired feathers and tweeds emphasized the riverbank theme. Aran and Fair Isle knits were paired with applique and printed skirts for a textural contrast. Evening wear was represented by two-piece minidresses and a silk jacquard, bead-embroidered dress echoing the wisteria motif. Accessories leaned towards a more commercial appeal, with structured bags, belts, and watch-strap-style jewelry enhancing the city-centric offerings.

But here's where it gets controversial... While the collection successfully blends cultural influences and contemporary fashion, some may argue that it leans too heavily on historical references. And this is the part most people miss... The collection's narrative, though compelling, could have been more innovative in its exploration of Chinese heritage. What do you think?
